Good morning Achievers! Hope your sleep was sweet?
This morning, we'll be dissecting one major enemy of our success— complacency. We'll be looking at it's roots and how to deal with it. Enjoy!
Com`pla`cen`cy
A feeling of contented self-satisfaction, especially when unaware of upcoming trouble.
Be it in business, academics, finance or any other aspect, this is a feeling that kicks in and we must contend with it, if we're going to continue succeeding. Let me explain:
Most times, we become complacent just after a big victory. We feel like we have accomplished a hard task and we let ourselves loose a little.
Complacency is one enemy of further success. It leaves you comfortable and satisfied with your current level, not wanting to reach for more.
From the definition, we are made to see how dangerous it is for one to be complacent. It says there that it keeps you in the dark about looming trouble. The trouble you do not know about, how then do you prepare against it?
Complacency makes you lose the initial drive with which you started. Not only that, sometimes, it deceives you into thinking that "it's not that bad, you just need to get some rest". The problem comes when you rest so long you forget you're on the race track.
This morning, I'd like you to know that you can achieve more out of life, no matter the level you are. Get better, keep on getting better. Strive for excellence, even in excellence. There's always room for improvement.
How do we guard against complacency?
From the onset of your victory, set plans in place for that'd help set the ball rolling. Now that you know what it (complacency) looks like and the mask it wears on, it'd be easier to spot.
I'm not saying you shouldn't celebrate yourself or take some breaks. Infact, I say it's okay to take breaks to celebrate your accomplishments. Only make sure those breaks are scheduled. Please follow your plans to the dot.
Cheers!
Thanks so much for this piece. At times we feel that sense of accomplishment and relax, unknown to us, there are still more to be accomplished.
ReplyDeleteMany millionaires of yesterday are nowhere today because of this. We need to keep on keeping on.
Once again, I say thanks
