Good Morning!
Today's post is a continuation of yesterday's. If you missed it, check this link:
How To Deal With A Bad Boss
1. Get certain you're dealing with a bad boss
Make sure it's not you that's the problem, that you're not delivering below standard.
Find out if there's a reason for their behavior and check yourself to know if you're not being too hard on them. For the next few days, observe.
2. Find out what makes your boss tick
What do you do that sets them off? Why do they get into a rage? Establish that it's not work or the working environment.
3. Identify their motivation
Why do they care about certain things much more than others? This could give you an insight into their leadership style.
4.Make sure it doesn't affect your work
No matter how badly your boss' behaves, do not let it affect your work.
Stay on good terms with your colleagues and your other leaders in the organization. Do not spread a bad word. Remember, whatever negative comment you make about someone always finds a way into their ears.
5. Stay One Step Ahead
Study the cycle. Anticipate requests and get jobs done before their due dates.
Know what your boss wants of you and fulfill it even before he asks (except it's against organizational ethics).
6. Set Boundaries
When working with someone who seemingly doesn't have boundaries, it's important you set yours and don't let them cross the boundaries.
Learn to distance yourself from bad behavior. You have control over your emotions. People make you feel bad because you let them.
7. They do not know it all
They may know more than you but they do not know it all. Stop assuming that they're all-knowing. They are still learning on the job (no matter how experienced they seem).
8. Act as the Leader
When dealing with an incompetent boss, sometimes it's best to make some leadership decisions on your own.
If you know your area well enough, there is no reason to not go ahead creating and pursuing a
direction you know will achieve good results for your company. People who do this are naturally followed by their peers as an informal leader.
Management, although maybe not your direct boss, will notice your initiative.
Of course, you don’t want to do something that undermines the boss, so keep him or her in the loop.
9. Ask Questions
When you do not understand what is said, ASK QUESTIONS.
Make sure you're getting the orders clearly. Repeat what they say eg. "You said I should ...?"
10. Avoid Future Bad Bosses
When interviewing with a new company, do your research ahead of time to make sure you're not getting into another situation with a less-than-ideal manager.
*I hope these tips have helped? Have a great day!
